A recent report by the Washington-based. Worldwatch Institute has concluded that one of the first and foremost basic changes that lengthens life expectancy is the supply of clean water. It adds that this perhaps is the reason why the average Indian’s life expectancy has increased by about 20 years during the last 45 years. For the people of Kerala too, availability of safe drinking water has been responsible for much higher life expectancy-73 years, for men and 68 years for women.
Water is the elixir of life and the second most vital need for the survival of mankind-after air. It is commonly understood that safe drinking water can be the vital link between life & death.
It might sound incredible, but facts cannot be denied too. As said by Confucius nearly 2500 years back, the health of an organism is tempered wholly by the mechanics of the stomach. As a modern saint, Paramahansa Yoganananda analysed, it is overeating (or eating on all the 365 days of a year) that leads to and complicates diseases.
Before discussing the details, one might be interested to know some of the diseases which can be cured under this therapy.
Headache, hypertension, anaemia, rheumatism, general paralysis, obesity, arthritis, sinusitis, tachycardia, anaesthesia.
Cough, asthama, bronchitis, pulmenary tuberculosis, menigitis, hepatic diseases, urogenital diseases. Hyperacidity, gastritis, dysentery, rectal prolapses, constipation, haemorrhoids, diabetes.
Eye troubles, opthalmic haemorrhage, opthalmia, irregular menstruation, Leucorrhoea, uterine cancer,’cancer of the mammary glands, Rhinitis Laryngitis.
About heart disease it is mentioned that “who drank atleast 5 glasses of water per day had a 50% lower risk of fatal heart attack than who drank 2 glasses or less. However, one should drink 8 glasses of water per day”.
How can one practise water therapy? Every morning as soon as one gets up, what one has to do is not wash one’s mouth and face but drink 1.26 kg (1260 cc) of water at a stretch, only then should one wash one’s face.
For the next 45 minutes one should not eat nor take beverages.
All this should be preceded by some preparations. After the last night’s dinner (before going to bed) one should not eat nor drink stimulating beverages or soft drinks.
While following this therapy, one should drink water two hours after a meal. One should not consume any drinks containing snacks/fast food before going to bed.
Where water contains impurities, it should be boiled in the night to be used in the morning.
Experience has shown that following diseases were cured by water therapy within the time shown below:
- Hypertension … One month
- Gastricpatosis … Two days
- Constipation … One day
- Diabetes … One week
- Cancer … One month
- Pulmonary tuberculosis … Three months
Person suffering from arthritis and rheumatism should use water therapy three times a day for one week and thereafter once in a day.
If you have the nagging problem of bad breath, drink at least five glasses of water first thing in the morning. This is an instant remedy for bad breath, besides keeping your system clean.
